MARY O’BRIEN

In high school, I took my first class at AY with my best friend and I never looked back. That day in 2011, my interpretation of “Yoga” translated to a workout and a way to break a sweat. At the time, little did I know that this practice was much, much more and would evolve into one of the most influential parts of my life.

Some of my favorite aspects of this practice are the profound effects it has on one’s mind, body, and soul. It’s an endless journey of learning, both externally and internally. Certain aspects of my yoga practice have also been beneficial outside the studio as a full time social worker.

I took the AY teacher training in 2016 and began my yoga teaching journey in Charleston, SC where I taught until COVID hit. I decided to take the level 2 after I moved back to Pittsburgh in 2024 and teaching at the studio has been one of the most full circle, rewarding experiences of my life.

Under the guidance of Karen and Sean, I have also completed the Yin teacher training and became a Reiki practitioner. It is such an honor to share my love for yoga with this special community, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
